The aim of the discussion was to analyse whether the media agenda setting role was over emphasized and whether the media had the ability to influence the salience of topics on the public agenda. This discussion also sought to interrogate the impact of traditional and social media’s agenda setting. The discussion looked at the media trends in 2016 focusing mainly on the key events over the last year i.e. protests, bond notes, bi-elections, drought and to frame the discussion around these key events in Zimbabwe. Feedback MMPZ got from listeners revealed that the public still had no trust in the media as they believed that the people who control the media controlled what was said and gate keeping is a degree of censorship which media houses apply.
